I received a copy of this book for free from Bookishfirst in exchange for a free/honest review.
This book has been one of my favorite reads so far this year. I really enjoyed the writing style. It dealt with some very heavy subject matter, but did it in a believable not overly dramatized way. The main character, and the characters around her, were all dealing with a lot of grief and trauma that, in my opinion, felt genuine. We as the reader got to see how the trauma that the characters experienced play out not only in their daily lives but in their current relationships.
It has been a while since I have read a YA Thriller/Murder mystery, but this one kept me at the edge of my seat. The main characters are teens, so they are going to be messy, they are going to spread rumors, and they will make mistakes. But, that was a lot of what I found fun about this book. I enjoyed that the characters were all very flawed in a very believable way. It made them all the more enjoyable in my opinion. I loved that we got a parent/child dynamic that was imperfect but not inherently awful. We also got to see people forgive, become allies, and even friends.
In the end I was able to guess the big twist/who done it at the end, but I did not deter my enjoyment of this book. I had such a fun time getting to the conclusion that it hardly mattered that I had guessed the killer.
