Reread 2020:
My progress with my goodreads goal this year is terrible so I'm going to finally finish this series as a way to make it look less sad lol
I've read the first four or five books ages ago and I remembered enjoying them so I figured I'd finally go ahead and finish it and help my reading goal along the way. Mia was more annoying than I thought the first time, but that makes sense, since she's a teenager and this book was written two decades ago. Some of the writing and the way Mia thought felt a bit problematic to me, which I hadn't realised at age nine, but is the main reason why I brought my original 4 stars rating down.
Overall, I appreciate that this was a very quick read and I will say that Mia got better towards the end. If I'm being honest, there was a lot I had to un-learn from when I was in middle school too, so it kind of makes sense that Mia thinks the way she does here. I am hoping that as she grows over the course of the series, she learns to be nicer.
The main realisation I had from reading this, though, is that it's been far too long since I last watched the movie so I will be rectifying that now!
