Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese

4.0

This is an absolutely heartbreaking story of an Ojibway boy named Saul, who loses his family and is sent to an Indian boarding school. The staff are cruel and cold, but it is at St. Jerome's Indian Residential School that Saul discovers hockey. His talent for the game frees him from the physical bounds of the St. Jerome's, but the experience of the school haunts him, driving him to drink and self destruction.
