The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

5.0

Oh, so many feelings about this book! What a beautiful beguiling piece of work by Shea Ernshaw! Totally immersive, atmospheric and bittersweet that tore me apart. I cried after reading the book and I kept wondering as to the multiple ways the story could have ended and the reason Ernshaw chose that one.

The plot is predictable and perhaps, the middle of the book was a bit uneventful. But, the stakes of the story are inner in nature, and the idea of weaving a tale of star-crossed lovers in a modern-day setting but with glimpses of the past was breathtaking.

I feel like this book is the one that, unconsciously, I've been looking to read since I started reading and I came across it just recently. It's the kind of emotive and whimsical writing I'd love to do and the kind of story that stays with you forever. While I was reading it, I felt the need to plunge into the pages and swim to the town of Sparrow in Oregon and get lost in the deep waters and the misty lands.

A highly sensory book with excellent imagery and the feeling of melancholia pouring from each page, this is something that you should definitely read in your lifetime. And not just once.
