A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

5.0

This was one of my summer reading books for my english class, and because assigned books have always let me down, I wasn't expecting much from this book.

Oh, how unprepared I was.

This book opened my eyes. It made me aware of the conditions people are living in in other parts of the world and realize how fortunate I really am. The characters are beautiful and heartbreakingly real. There aren't any "villains"- one person's enemy is another's hero. People are displayed as they are- with sometimes sour moods and other times sugary sweet.

This is a story of two women overcoming their struggles in an oppressive society that constantly drags them down. It's beautiful and informative, with heartbreaking twists that are bound to make you cry. I should know because I did that at least ten times.
