Incredibly well written and different enough from the various popular adaptations that will keep you on your toes; be prepared that Hugo spends a significant time on topics (such as architecture and historical figures) that digress from the story. While it builds the atmosphere and setting it can be a clear shift from the plot and slower pace making it harder to get through, but eventually worth it.
