The Unplanned Life of Josie Hale by Stephanie Eding

4.0

I'm so glad I picked this up on a whim because it was just my kind of microgenre - hot messes earnestly trying to get their life on track in a slightly unconventional way, with a little dash of romance thrown in.

In this case, our hot messes are high school BFFs Josie, Kevin, and Ben, reunited after over a decade apart, over corn dogs at the county fair. Josie's moved back in with her parents in the wake of discovering her soon-to-be-ex-husband cheating on her. Unfortunately, she also happens to be pregnant with his child. Kevin and Ben are similarly wondering how age thirty turned out to be so awful and suggest that Josie move in with them so they can share expenses and all get their lives together before they turn 31.

The romance here is a super slow burn, so don't come into this thinking the romance is going to be the star attraction. This is more about three oddballs figuring out adulting together. For those of us who grew up with Three Men and Baby, this is a similar vibe, except the baby isn't born yet and the mom is included in the clueless new parent trio.
