I was hesitant about "Innocent Traitor" at first--I much prefer Alison Weir's histories to her historical novels. Weir has a habit of making her characters state the obvious in her novels, and the foreshadowing had a heavy (or slightly overdone) hand in this one. However, the novel definitely improved as it went on. My heart absolutely ached for Lady Jane Grey, and despite knowing exactly what was going to happen and why, I couldn't put it down. Lady Jane is not only a compelling character, but a historic personage, and her resolute steadfastness in her faith and bravery in the face of her impending doom are truly inspiring to this day. I would highly recommend this novel to those interested in Tudor history and historical fiction.
