The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

5.0

This book/audiobook was everything I never knew I needed from an author.

First of all, if you're not a fan of audiobooks, give this one (if only this one in your entire life!!!!) a try. I had my audiobook playing and my book open to follow Ms Acevedo's narrative and the experience was amplified tenfold. To hear this book read by the woman herself is a gift to us readers. Her energy, spirit and passion just come out and consume you.

Outside of Ms Acevedo's addictive voice, the story is a solid and fitting one for the times. She deals with issues of religion, family expectations, sexuality, acceptance etc etc etc... basically, most issues teenagers have experienced at some point in their lives.

I am not the poetry enthusiast. I will hardly ever be caught dead at a spoken word performance. Dub poetry? What's that?? BUT I LOVED THIS BOOK. Take that for a review ;)
