Many of the author’s word choices irritated me. I didn’t understand why she needed to use “the artist” and “the father.” Her descriptions of Tehching Hsieh’s work also seemed quite basic—fine for people to learn about the art for the first time but mostly flat for the purpose of the entire novel.
