mrchance 's review for:

Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton
2.0

I'll include a more thorough review after book club. Right now, I'm just thinking how pointless all this torture is. Ethan Frome makes an unwise marriage decision. He falls for his wife's cousin. Instead of leaving his wife--because he would feel guilty about her being destitute--he decides to kill himself and his new young paramour. Um. How does that leave his wife any better off? I guess it was the guilt he was more concerned about, not the actual leaving her probably penniless and homeless. All the characters are detestable. Maddie, the young girl, is alright, until she decides that she'd rather die than leave Ethan. Ugh. Read a book, sweetie, that's never a good idea.
