The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson

5.0

Shirley Jackson was the queen of all introverts, is what I have learned from reading this.
The tales in this book, with the exception of The Lottery, are not really horror. They are tales of social interactions gone sour in strange and alarming ways that never veer into violence but instead keep coming back to the central theme that humans are full of unfathomable contradictions and ugly biases, and that having to deal with them is the real horror.
