There is a lot of sex. And blood play (due to the blood rites abd all). At some point I said out loud “Can I have some plot??”
This trilogy has all the notes of religion, vampires and prophecy that I would typically love. I think overall it was a really interesting story with good use of vampire lore. I feel some parts of the relationship-building between the main characters moved too quickly and skipped over enough that their love doesn’t seem real or weighted enough for me.
I really dislikedLaurent’s betrayal and found the relationships unbalanced (Laurent x Varick versus Given with wither). I feel like Given forgave everyone too easily—she should be more mad and at least demand retribution before she forgives! Everyone here is trauma bound lol
There is a nice message for non-cis/hetero/monogamous relationships. I just need more depth built out here.
The author writes sex scenes really well and each one is varied. I guess erotica is not exactly what I’m looking for though, because I like a little more romance to give weight and meaning to the sexual relationship.
