I've been working my way through the Emperor's Edge series after a) seeing it highly recommended and b) seeing the first three books available for 99 cents on Kindle. So far, I've been enjoying the series! It's intriguing with a very unique cast of characters. I particularly enjoy the female heroine, Amaranthe.
Dark Currents' plot is as interesting as the first Emperor's Edge book, but I felt there were some loose ends not addressed. There didn't seem to be much closure for Books' and Vonsha, specifically what happened to her! She just walks away in Chapter 25 and isn't mentioned again.
Despite that very minor loose end, I enjoyed the second book all-in-all. I certainly wasn't deterred from moving on in the series!
