The Kiss of a Stranger by Sarah M. Eden

2.0

I’m torn. This book started as a five star read, but by the end was only a two star. It was a fast and violent fall from “A new favorite” to “I can’t wait for it to be over.”

The positive was that this was an interesting regency, unlike any I had read before. There were some moments that were so well done. Unfortunately those moments were in the beginning and then the story just went downhill from there.

The miscommunication became so repetitive and tedious as the book went on and ended up stunting the character’s personal growth and relationship growth. The second half seemed to just continue to recycle the events and feelings of the first half over and over again and nothing new happened.

Also, the book was in desperate need of some more light hearted moments as I felt the heavy topics, especially the abuse, weighed the characters down too much / too often. Between the uncle (who was way too over the top / almost cartoonish), Mrs. Bower, the drama around Mr. Finley and Philip etc., I felt like the plot got bogged down and didn’t give the main characters enough time to really build a relationship outside of those things. The couple of light hearted moments that the characters DID have, were referenced over and over again, when that time could have been used to move the plot along. And after all the drama and misunderstanding (SO many misunderstandings) and back and forth… and back and forth again, when the characters finally told each other how they felt, the moment was basically skipped over. Blah. I’m so disappointed.
