4.5

I found this at once Shakespearean and Biblical tale to be completely captivating. Will you squirm reading this? Undoubtedly. But Moshfegh expertly winds the themes of her novels around characters who are - certainly not in their morals, but in their portrayals - fantastic. Despite addressing age-old themes and tropes, Lapvona always feels fresh, surprising, and never too derivative. I will be prioritising the rest of Moshfegh's work over the coming months.
