My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

4.0

ok so i would give this book a solid 3.7 i think. surprisingly, i enjoyed how vapid and unlikeable the main character is — i love the fact that we don’t know her name and that her money, whiteness and beauty is the only thing that affords her a semblance of humanity. i liked how the author wrote about depression and grief, from the main character’s nihilistic perspective and from reva’s shallow optimism. i really wish that the author went into more detail about her relationship with trevor bc that dynamic was…. interesting yet it was given hardly much meaning in the book, despite it being quite an integral part of the main character’s life. and i also wish that there was more detail about reva’s and the main character’s friendship towards the end like what happened?? i feel like i didn’t receive closure about the friendship ending. maybe that was the point
