Gone by James Patterson, Michael Ledwidge

3.0

Every once in a while I have to read a murder and mayhem book. I mean, after luxuriating in The Help.... That's when I turn to Patterson. Sometimes I only get a couple of chapters into his books before trashing them. But once in a while I get through a book -- like this one. Many people die as a Mexican drug lord basically declares war on the United States. There is indeed much death and destruction. Of course, the good guys prevail; the bad guys get the crap beaten out of them -- but not before inflicting a whole lot of damage. This is all done within a semblance of a plot and characters who are a cut, but just a cut, above 2-dimensional. But what does Patterson care what I think? He has the formula down pat and is laughing all the way to the bank. If you like shoot 'em up books, you'll probably enjoy this one.
