Lore
by Alexandra Bracken
I received this ARC from Disney publishing and likely Ms. Bracken herself, along with a cool set of temporary tattoos that I have yet to use but stare at longingly, so thank you both for this glorious book.
'Lore' the book is about a tournament like system that takes place every seven years, in which the Greek Gods are hunted down for their immortality and powers, and of course their titles. It is a vicious game/way of life that has split into many bloodlines (Also, cool fact that the book has a list of everyone who is in what bloodline and what god is who so that's amazing).
Lore, the person, is the last of the Perseus bloodline and has been trying to escape the life for the last seven years just to be pulled back into it by her past and the remaining gods.
This, in my opinion, is one of the best books that Bracken has written since her 'Darkest Minds' series, and I've read her books religiously. She's one of my favorite authors and I think that this one is so unique that no one else would have been able to do it the way that she has.
The best parts of this story were that everyone was ready to square up on eye contact; there was no hesitation, there was only stab first and ask questions later. The main plot can be that of a young woman coming into herself and her inheritance, and very minorly a romance but the fighting was a great part of this; easy to follow along with, great characters, beautiful storytelling, and plot twists that had me freaking out at two a.m.
Lore is living rent-free in my head, I'm going to be thinking about her every time I see Medusa and every time someone talks about the Greeks now. She's perfect.
