Someday Angeline by Louis Sachar

3.0

I enjoy Freddie DeBoer so much that when he makes a shortlist of junior fiction to read for his bookclub, I'll read them all (to be fair, he did include The Giver so he's got curation cred) Anyhow this is from 1983, a time when you could scare children a little, imply the main character has drowned, and keep young readers in a state of suspension while they tear ahead in the pages to find out what happened. Never too young to get them with a hook.
