Did not finish book.

I wish I could say I tried, but I really didn't. DNF about halfway through. Given the length of the book and the fact I was bored and exasperated before the end of chapter one, I really feared this book would put me into a massive reading slump. But I still find myself reluctant to DNF things, at least before I give them a fair shake. So I made myself read two chapters a day while not neglecting my other reading. I got to 51% before it was due back at the library. I even considered renewing my loan since I had already made it halfway, but there was a wait list! A wait list for this book! The world is very strange.

Anyway, this book is dull and overwritten. I was exasperated from the very beginning because it's clear from the very beginning that the story is just an amalgamation of tropes, character types, worldbuilding, and even exact terms from popular classic sci-fi written by much better writers than this author, most notably Dune. Like Frank Herbert's estate could probably sue for plagiarism and win.

There are several books in this series! How? I cannot imagine wasting the time to read all of them.
