Summer at the Lake by Erica James

1.0

OK I admit it I'm not a chic-lit reader and I was forced to read this for our book club. Its really bad. Poor characters, cheesy plot and boring boring overuse of exposition. Do we need to know that the main character boils his peas for 10 minutes? Warms his plates. Drinks water because he is the nominated driver...Needs to take a dip in the sea to cool off and its not because he's hot..(nudge nudge wink wink) No we don't!!! And when Ms James likens one of the soppy heroes emotional traumas to 'their very own Ground Zero' I'd had enough. Excruciatingly bad taste. This book has re-inforced my belief that I need to steer clear of fluffy stuff that insults my intelligence. I am seriously puzzled at how this book get such rave reviews from serious newspaper journals??? Sigh.
