I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

emotional funny inspiring reflective sad

5.0

"I've pretended for my job for so long, and for my mom for so long, and now I'm starting to think I'm pretending for myself too."

Jennette seems to have been dealt quite an unfortunate hand of cards but she's learned to survive. And through surviving, finally taking care of herself first. I don't know her, apart from watching her when I was younger, but I'm SO proud of her for getting the help she needed. Facing and working through the painful feelings and experiences.

Jennette's writing kept me captivated and, surprisingly enough, very entertained when reading about the hardships she's been put through since her childhood. She's managed to express a heavy set of trauma in a hilarious AND heartbreaking way.

An incredibly difficult thing to come to terms with is realizing someone you love and adore wasn't actually that great. Another is learning how someone awful can still have good qualities and provide amazing memories.
