OOOOHHH YEAHHH WE’RE SOOO BACK! Picked this up after a couple month hiatus from ToG and it didn’t disappoint. People who say this series starts off slow or is boring have no attention span because this book was phenomenal. I loved seeing more of Celaena’s assassin side and how she that has shaped her into who she is. And of course I loved the continued world building, the history of magic, and the king (and how he has sequestered most of it).
After the last book I was lowkey hoping for more Dorian/Celaena content, so I was definitely surprised when it became Chaol/Celaena (I knew it was going to happen, just figured it wasn’t till a later book). Lowkey love them both for her in different ways, but I wanna see more Dorian in the future 🤭 (who I know isn’t endgame).
Some notes:
- I loved seeing Dorian’s magic journey unfold. I’m so used to FMC’s discovering their magic (and having the MMC help them learn to wield it), so I’m liking this change where we see a MMC discover his magic
- I need more Dorian
- I totally saw the king controlling all the magic coming, but not in the way it came to be
- I’ve totally thought that Celaena was actually a member of a lost royal bloodline since book I, so not entirely surprised by the ending here 😆
- I want to know more about the cells under the castle (though not sure if that’s relevant in future books)
- I’ll miss Nehemia 😥
The ending was truly phenomenal and had me grinning at my book and kicking my feet. Now I’m just annoyed that I gotta go read AB before I can continue with the storyline 😤
