Mabel and the Queen of Dreams by Henry Herz, Joshua Herz

4.0

Mabel doesn't want to go to sleep; there are too many other things she would rather do! But when Mabel asks for a story, Mommy knows just which one will not only send Mabel off too sleep, but will paint her dreams.

Mabel and the Queen of Dreams is a beautifully illustrated picture book. Some of the pages have embellishments around the text, enhancing the impression of the illustrations as stand alone works of art. Based on the writings of Shakespeare, the book is about Mabel, a little girl who doesn't want to sleep, and the story she is told by her mother. The story she tells of the Fae Queen is rich with visual descriptions and other sensory details. I can easily imagine this book becoming a regular part of a child's bedtime ritual.
