Is this actually a 5 star book? I honestly don't know. What I do know is that I felt immense happiness almost the whole time I was reading it. I just LIKED Tank and Bess and I always love being in the world of the Bruisers. This is definitely a great example of a romance where I didn't see myself in either of the main characters but still loved them and loved them more for each other. There were times I felt both Bess and Tank were a little flat as characters. At times I wanted certain events, both past and present, to be a little more fleshed out. The book covers a lot of emotional ground and so it felt more like vignettes at time then huge depth. We got enough though. Enough to see that they're both simple in their needs and shaped by trauma in their pasts. I loved that Bess was strong, open, and realistic. I loved that Tank was a grown man who clearly recognizes his past self but knows he's now smarter and wiser. Anyway. I was just really happy the whole time.

I hadn't read either Bountiful or Moonlighter prior to this so felt a little left out of the Beringer family and also getting to see Eric Bayer's story. Are they completely necessary to understand this book? Eh? YMMV. I'd say yes. I'd also say don't read this book if you haven't read any of the other Bruisers books. It's a series and a series that builds off of the previous books regardless of whether each book is only about one couple.
