I did not enjoy this. I wanted to. I have loved A.G. Howard's otherbooks so I thought this was another one to be excited for. Well, today it comes off my shelves to find another home elsewhere.
FIrst major issue for me with the physical book was the obnoxious red lettering. FOr the ENTRIE book! I couldn't read more then a few pages at a time without a headache. Red lettering on cream paper is a very, very bad idea!!! I can't speak for the ebook on this but this alone ensured I would never be able to read this copy again. But I told myself that if I liked it I would just have to buy an ebook copy if the price was right. Alas I did not enjoy this.
The cliches were way over the top. It was very predictable and a lot seemed unnecessary. At first I was curious about Rune's singing and THorn's playing and how they connected. Then it all went to cheesy-clicheville. So, so bad... painfully so
SO why two stars and not 1? First I do still LOVE that cover. I liked the idea of a Phantom of the Opera retelling and I still found much of the writing to be beautiful in some of the imagery, like the tunnels and cemetery, etc. But the story itself was a flop.
