Foolish Hearts by Emma Mills

5.0

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** Foolish Hearts documents a senior girl’s time working as crew for her high school’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. During this time, she falls for Gideon Prewitt and develops her relationship with the brash Iris Huang. The rest of the book is about her life post meeting of these people. This book was phenomenal. It is hilarious in a way that anyone can enjoy, even if humor is subjective. Claudia and her friends’ rapport is genuinely funny and awkward in an endearing way that gives this book life and an enthralling story. It is easily one of the best parts of the book. The best part, though, is the character development that all of them go through. Claudia, going out of her comfort zone, learns to open herself up to other people and accept that those people love her. Iris, who starts off as an arrogant person, slowly lets herself open to others as well. She gains friendships she didn’t think she’d ever get, and she slowly lets go of her defensive, reactive way of thinking.
