It’s sad. I didn’t know it was sad and for about 1/3 the book, I was crying. Tears making it hard to even read the words on the page. I couldn’t imagine reading this as a kid, or maybe I wouldn’t understand? Perhaps it’s once you feel that heartbreak that you can place yourself in the story and feel all the emotions.
