The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides

5.0

I've not seen Sophia Coppola's film adaptation of this cult book, and before reading it I knew very little about what to expect. Eugenides writes beautifully and I was immediately drawn to his ethereal portrayal of the Lisbon sisters. The novel is one of the anxieties of being a teenager and the overwhelming fascination with the opposite sex that puberty facilitates. I loved the suspense and the dark humour of the book.
