The Midnight Rose
by Lucinda Riley
This book absolutely bewitched me from the very beginning. The historical story was so incredible. Several times, I cried. Several times, I had a lump in my throat. Several times, I was so tense with the foreshadowing that I stopped doing whatever I was doing while listening to just listen. Having just finished, I can still feel that lump of emotion.
The only reason I rated down was that I felt that the 2011 plot just didn't maintain the spellbinding characters or tension. Rebecca was a bit flat for me, and I didn't like that her relationship status was such a fundamental part of the plot in this timeline. Ari's sections in 2011, I loved. But Rebecca didn't work for me.
I think that this one (this historical timeline) will live with me for a long time.
Side note as I listened to this as an audiobook, the narrator was fantastic. Really made it come alive.
