A Girl from Yamhill by Beverly Cleary
4.0

There are lots of short anecdotes scattered throughout the book that have made it into various books--the coffee can stilts; long underwear; and eating the first bite of an apple. I felt bad for Beverly as I read this; she had a rather difficult relationship with her mother, one which she still tried to understand as an adult, looking forward to reading the next volume of her memoirs.
