Heat-4.5 So many scenes, depending on your copy, even an orgy

Taryn, the daughter of an asshole alpha, wakes up one day in a strange bedroom only to discover she has been kidnapped by Trey Coleman, another alpha rumored to be psychotic. He had an interesting proposition for her. In order to help him gain an alliance with her father, he would like for her to pretend they are true mates. This would also benefit Taryn since she is being forced into a mating against her will. True mates are the absolute highest bond of shifters, a kind of instant soul mate. After a threat to Trey's pack has passed, Taryn would be free to tell everyone that they were wrong about being mates and go on her own way. This seems like the perfect solution for both of them until real feelings develop between them.
Both Taryn and Trey were amazingly written. Taryn is both a latent shifter and an alpha. The latent means that she is unable to shift into her werewolf form and makes many believe she is weak. However, dominance doesn't depend on shifting. Everyone is born with a certain amount, and Taryn was born with dominance in spades. Not only does this give her a backbone of steal but it forces others to see her as a power. She is also sarcastic and witty. I rarely laugh during books but she got me a few times. Trey is your typical alpha man with a traumatic past that makes him closed off from his feelings, but once he accepts these feelings, he isn't afraid of them.
Now, the sex. This book is hot. Trey has a filthy mouth, and the scenes between them were explosive. I intentionally got the copy with the orgy because, you know, curiosity. I'm glad it was removed. It didn't fit. Trey is possessive through the entire book. He growls at fellow pack members for their sexual jokes towards Taryn. Not because he is genuinely mad, more because he can't stop his wolf from being that possessive. However, suddenly he wants them to touch her? Not only did it not fit Trey, but it didn't fit Taryn. Much was made of Taryn's alpha spirit making her fight Trey in bed. Even when she wanted things, she refused to be submissive. Then, just because she promised to be good, she is in the most submissive situation I can imagine without a second thought. Afterwards, there is no fallout. No mention of it again. It felt contrived for shock value.
