The Tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris
5.0

What a beautiful story, written in an amazing way!

I read this just after visiting Auschwitz with my mother earlier this year. We had a guide with a world of knowledge but nothing this book outshone that visit. Walking around, seeing the gas chambers and both camps did not hit me as hard as this book did. However, seeing the distance between the camps made me the reality of how far they would have to walk each day unbearable - especially when you are tired, starving, malnourished, overworked and in inappropriate footwear and clothing.

Yes some parts of the book are sad and the way they were treated on a daily basis was awful but at the end of the day the friendships and relationships they made are in all ways magnificent.
