The Memory of Fire by Callie Bates

5.0

This sequel seemed slower-paced than The Waking Land at first. I missed Elanna's POV and I missed her as an active character for the first part of the book. But Jahan's story was compelling, with a tragic and slightly mysterious backstory, an urgent mission, and great character development. The plotting was also excellent, especially as the story picked up after the first third or so. I tore through the book in a few big gulps.

Incredibly satisfying climax and conclusion. Sets up well for #3 without an obnoxious 2nd-of-trilogy cliffhanger.
