Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

3.0

A high three stars, 3.5? I don't think I can bump it to 4 but I really did enjoy this one. I don't have a lot to say about this book, but I tore through it in about 2 hours. There wasn't anything particularly good or bad about the book overall, and some stuff did bother me, like I literally didn't understand why she wasn't throwing herself at this attractive guy who has tons of money lol.

I think that's what makes Annabelle such a low point for me. I understand WHY someone who's only known British mobility can't grasp why marrying Just A Rich Guy isn't actually a bad thing. It just didn't make sense, I was thinking the whole time if my family was put in that position I would have thrown myself at an attractive rich man regardless if all of that. I guess this is supposed to highlight how stubborn she is and make her seem independent, and like she had loads of self respect. I get it to an extent, but I just couldn't make sense of it half the time.

I liked Simon overall, but he wasn't super fantastic. He was very predictable overall, but I really did like his devotion.

I think this book is perfectly paced and a good introduction to the series. I believed in the tension overall, but just found the heroine's line of thought a little strange. I do appreciate that the book has a slower burn than most HRs I've read as well.
