suespiry 's review for:
The High Mountains of Portugal
by Yann Martel
I don't know what it is about Martel's books, but they are magical -- exquisitely written and thought-provoking, realistic and fantastical all at once. The differences between truth and allegory, or perhaps the use of allegory to illuminate truths, are merged so seamlessly that I'm spellbound. This is literature at its best -- accessible, multi-faceted, and lingering.
