A truly unique read, I loved Monstrilio so so much, this book is exactly what I needed right now. A Promethean tale in the modern day, more explicitly dealing with the themes of grief and parenthood present in Shelley’s Frankenstein. Monstrilio discusses the importance of names and identity, challenges of conformity, and the restrictions and revaluations of memory. All of the characters were wonderfully written and each had depth and nuance. A horror novel definitely in the gothic tradition, exploring all of the ‘in-between spaces’.
