Cinder by Marissa Meyer

5.0

“Cinder” first book of The Lunar Chronicles series is a retelling of a fairytale “Cinderella”. “This is not the fairy tale you remember. But it's one you won't forget.” And it’s so true.

Synopsis

The story is about a cyborg girl who is a well-known mechanic in the market of new Beijing. She is an adopted child living with her two sisters and mother. Moon is also a country with individuals having special mind controlling powers. At this time Asia known as Eastern common wealth is ruled by emperor Rikan who is sick with a deadly disease letumosis. This disease came from the lunars who escaped moon because of the cruel Queen Levana.

Cinder’s sister gets the plague and her mother volunteers her for plague research. The head doctor, Dr. Erland, performed tests on her and came to know that she is immune to the disease. Prince Kai approaches cinder to get his android repaired that had special information and cinder hides her identity.

After the death of his father prince Kai becomes the emperor of eastern common wealth. There is a great pressure on him to form a marriage alliance with the lunar queen in order to kill the threats and get the antidote. During experiments cinder comes to know that she is also a lunar but without manipulating powers. Cinder repairs the android and comes to know that prince Kai was trying to find the lost lunar princess. She also finds an anonymous chip in his android. At the annual ball lunar queen was also invited as a special guest. Cinder finds out that the chip was installed in the android to spy on the Prince. She rushes to the ball to warn Kai. She gets arrested as a Lunar fugitive. Dr. Erland helps Cinder escape from prison and asks her to join him in Africa.

I’m really amazed by the writer’s imagination and how beautifully she has pictured it. The story moves very smoothly and captures your interest till the end. The thing I like the most is the way she described the minute details and each time disclosed a new secret. I love selfless nature of cinder and the way she tries to help her sister and the prince.
