A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

4.0

And so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Everyone ! ~~

This is by far the most religious fiction I have read ! True, Charles Dickens might not have intended that but that's what I took from it.

Here is an arrogant old man who is too blinded by the 'importance' of money and business that he fails to see joy in anything else. He shows a harsh behavior towards children, his clerk and even his own nephew ! To this man God sends Marley's ghost like a prophet so that he can know his mistakes and become a good man before his death.

Past
This was important. What exactly happened to make Scrooge hate Christmas or everything else for that matter ? His lonely childhood. He was always left alone even during Christmas time. There is saying " The people who have broken hearts are the people who break hearts" . This is what happened with Scrooge and his girl. She knew something in him has changed and couldn't bear him anymore.

Present
Sometimes people just don't know how much they hurt others. Scrooge was lucky and got an opportunity to see ! Seeing how Bob's family even though in dire need of money was still blissful. This is when he realized his money was useless after all and how much it would mean for his family if he were just a little kinder towards his clerk.

Future
Death. That's what it comes down to. He worked day and night for money but when he died that didn't matter anymore, he was suddenly a beggar. Looted in life and in death. What remained is what people thought of him and consequences of actions in his life which were both awful. That was enough to melt his cold heart !

None of us ( probably ) will receive Ghosts from different times to let us know the truth of the world. But that's what books are for ! World could do with people who don't care for wealth at all right now ! Love for wealth is humanity's doom.
