Blue Noon by Scott Westerfeld

3.0

I was disappointed with the end of this book, I kinda feel like it was a cop out. An attempt to kill off a main character at the end gone wrong, the author suddenly wussing out at the last minute.. it did feel a little, half hearted.

But that's not to say I didn't like the book. It didn't seem as good as the others, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first, say, but it was ok. I liked how the real world and the secret hour started merging and becoming problems for one another and the way Jessica's sister is a nosy so and so who is trying to work out what's happening for herself (go Beth! even if it is a bit stupid to go to a cave in a desert in the middle of the night when you're 13 or so).

This instalment did show to me how one dimensional Jessica is throughout most of the book (always worrying about being grounded when there are more important things to think about at the time or getting away from her sister or thinking about Jonathan) and Dess seemed like a much more interesting character. Melissa and Rex? Well I never really liked either of them much.

And something else that's bothered me, which I've noticed a few other reviews take note of, is how similar the plot lines are and repetitive and samey the books are. Which is probably what makes the book a bit for a finale. You're kind of expecting what happens next because it's following the same ideas as the other books.
