The Savior's Champion by Jenna Moreci

5.0

I will be first starting off my review as usual with trigger warnings for this book. If you have problems reading books with high profanity, graphic violence, or love scenes I wouldn’t recommend this book to you considering it has all of those things. There are also multiple scenes in which characters get intoxicated and there are scenes in which characters show “depression”. (I’m using this in quotes because depression is a serious mental disorder and since the characters didn’t have it, but showed a minor episode of it.)

Some of the saviors champion highlights for me:

❤️Characters❤️: The characters in the Saviors Champion are probably one of my favorite parts about it. They are so fleshed out and just REAL. They have flaws and they mess up, but not all of them are complete garbage humans. Yes, some characters are horrible and I hated them with a burning passion. But there were even more characters who I love so goddamn much and who I rooted for until the end of the book came around.

❤️Romance❤️: The main romance was by far my favorite part of this book. For one, it was a good and HEALTHY romance. Those are unfortunately rare. They also started off very slow and it wasn’t lust or sexual need/want that drived the romance but how the two characters had a real connection and truly care for each other. I also appreciate how when the book got to the more steamy scenes that consent was focused in on.

❤️Pacing❤️: The pacing of this book was very good. I enjoyed how it was fast paced but it wasn’t SO FAST that it just felt like it was going by too quick. There were some slower paced scenes, but honestly it wouldn’t have made sense for them to not have a slower pace. These were mostly the romance scenes and then some sad scenes. I believe that the pacing of this book is one of the reasons that I was able to finish it so quickly because I could quite literally get through nearly 80 pages and not even realize it.

❤️Plot twists❤️: I LOVED the plot twists in this book. The major one was probably about 80% way through the story and I was totally not expecting it. It totally caught be off guard and I usually always expect the plot twists. The plot twists in this book are also perfectly placed right when we all think the book is slowing down...NOPE!

❤️Dialogue❤️: Something about the dialogue in this book is amazing. I can literally picture the characters voices perfectly in my mind and the dialogue is just very diverse and carries the story on in a perfect manner. Don’t know how to describe it. Just read the book and you’d know what I’m talking about.

❤️Random things I loved❤️: Now I’m just going to talk about random stuff that was just amazing! First of all, Jenna’s writing style. I think that it’s very formal which matches with the Dark Fantasy genre, but I also enjoy the unique POV she uses. By using 3rd person point of view but limited—focusing on Tobias—Jenna is still able to let the reader understand Tobias on a much deeper level than you’d expect from a 3rd person POV. Next, let’s talk about representation. I’d argue that this book has the best representation that I’ve ever seen. Jenna has multiple characters on the LGBTQ+ spectrum as well as characters from multiple racial and ethnic backgrounds. Some books really lack in representation, but Jenna doesn’t shy away from being ALL the representation and I’m here for it.

So that’s my review of The Saviors Champion by Jenna Moreci. Overall, it’s by far my favorite read of this year and quite possibly ever. Something about this book is just amazing and I love it. I would HIGHLY recommend!
