FTC DISCLAIMER: I RECEIVED AN E-ARC FROM THE PUBLISHER THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF SOURCES. I VOLUNTARILY OFFER MY HONEST REVIEW OF THE BOOK, THOUGH IT IS NOT EXPECTED OF ME! RECEIPT OF THIS BOOK IN THIS MANNER DOES NOT AFFECT MY OPINION OF THE BOOK OR THE CONTENT OF MY REVIEW!
I've read every book in this series, and while my enjoyment of the individual books has been on a bit of a roller coaster, the series has been overall an enjoyable one. However, this is one of the stories where my enjoyment of it was definitely at a low point.
The entire problem with the book for me was Hastings. I absolutely hated her! I'd hated her for every book in the series prior to this, but even more so with her own book. I found her to be stuck up and unapproachable, even after the events that brought her back home. She seemed shallow and unredeemable to me. The only redeeming quality was her relationship with Ian, as it felt like the one time she was actually a genuine individual. I liked Ian, very much, in fact. The one problem I had with him was his "deception" at the end of the book, but it was a logical move for him.
The book was engaging and easy to read, thankfully, so despite my hatred of the heroine, it was a well paced and quick read.
