The Road to Serfdom by Friedrich A. Hayek, Bruce Caldwell

5.0

It is amazing to see how relevant this book has remained since its first publication nearly seventy years ago. The problem of totalitarianism, and the claim that both the far right and far left are one in the same, are central ideas that continue to inform our current political climat. A contemporary figure like Jordan Peterson is, now that I've read this, essentially parroting Hayek, and applying his theories to the modern world. That is saying a lot considering how much publicity a figure like Peterson has garnered over the past couple years. He's not alone in borrowing from Hayek.
Regardless of your political orientation I strongly recommend everyone interested in economics or politics read this. Hayek's exploration of individualism and the state is enlightening and refreshing. A clear masterpiece.
