The Ballad of Black Tom by Victor LaValle

5.0

A novella. Snagged this free from Tor.com. Now, there is something about Lovecraftian horror with racial undertones that sets my inner reader bubbling with joy. The book sets a weird domino effect in your brain and you end up thinking about all the things that are discussed in the book. The slow creeping horror and the edge of paranoia like a blade caressing your jugular vein.

Uneasy feeling at the end of it, but a good kind of uneasy. No jump scares in this one, but you will be left spooked. Masterful writing.
