This book was everything I expected from Leigh Bardugo's Grishaworld books, especially one that stars one of my favorite characters in the lead - Nikolai Lanstov.

The story is set a few years after the civil war and the end of Darkling. it also takes place after the Six of Crows duology in the overall Grishaworld timeline. Prince/King Nikolai is struggling to keep Ravka safe from all the foreign threats, as well as from the internal demons he is facing - battling something that has resurfaced. He has his trusted, ice cold, beautiful and powerful general Zoya by his side along with David, Genya, Tolya, Tamar. Nina is out on a parallel mission with Adrik and Leoni to find and rescue Grishas. And then, lots of things happen.

The chemistry between the characters is simply amazing. Zoya hadn't been one of my favorite characters in the Shadow and Bone series, but she has my heart completely in this book. I simply could not get enough of the banter between Nikolai and the rest of the cast.

But its not all humour, and Nina's struggle with her loss and grief is so well put together, that I almost cried during those scenes in the book.

Highly recommend this - fast paced, full of heart and full of twists book in the Grisha series. Cant wait to read the finale. However, I felt you would enjoy the book more if you read the earlier books in sequence. I felt this book was written completely for the fans, so thank you so much!! :)
