So, Chosen was definitely a ride. Things are getting messier (in a good way), the stakes are higher, and I found myself really pulled into the chaos of Zoey’s world. There’s a lot of emotional drama, especially between characters, and while it can be a bit much at times, I’ll admit… I was hooked. I liked seeing some of the dynamics shift, especially as certain characters started to show more depth.
That said, just like with the other House of Night books, I have to mention that this series is very much a product of its time. There are slurs, outdated stereotypes, and a mix of spiritual/cultural practices that really should’ve been handled more respectfully — especially since the authors are white. It takes away from the opportunity for those native to those traditions to tell their own stories.
Still, I can’t deny that Chosen kept me entertained. The story continues to unfold in ways that make me curious to keep going, even if I roll my eyes a little along the way. It’s nostalgic, messy, and oddly comforting in its own chaotic way.
