The Corpse in Oozak's Pond by Charlotte MacLeod

4.0

I had never heard of Charlotte MacLeod until I came across this book at a little free library in Salem, and I'm honestly upset that I've gone this long without this series. The characters are quirky and endearing and the dialogue is perfect. It wasn't what I expected, but I loved the fact that the mystery often seemed to take a backseat to the small-town gossip. This is not a gritty or dark crime novel, but is perfectly suited to settling down with a comfy blanket and a cup of tea and relishing in the rumors and petty insults that comprise a surprisingly large part of the murder investigation. I was very pleasantly surprised by what initially looked like any other cheesy mystery novel, and I will definitely be reading more of this series.
