I enjoyed this a lot more than the first one! The characters were given more depth and because of the romance between Victoria and Kirtash, the stakes were much higher. It was a bit disappointing to see that all my predictions were right, though :/
SpoilerMostly the fact that Victoria was Lunnaris and Jack was the dragon; it was really predictable, and the author couldn't stop hinting at the fact without saying it. We readers are not that thick and it was pretty obvious, even without all the hints. I know this book is for children, but kids aren't dumb either; and the way this plot point was handled, it was like the author thought we were stupid. Just like she did with Allegra, who was obivously NOT human and knew that Victoria wasn't either.

One thing that really annoyed me was that the author changed the names of Alsan to Alexander and Kirtash to Christian, with no other reason than characters wanting to. If it had happened once it would have been fine, but two times? It just seems a bit odd.

The book finished in a strange way, too. I can't imagine how the author will follow up with the next one, because I can't imagine the characters will be able to
Spoilerdefeat Ashran.
