Oh for pity's sake. What an unfortunate choice. Hailed as a gripping debut, a powerful read, talented prose with an Edith Wharton like feel. Unfortunately, no. For me, this novel was none of those things. Prose for prose's sake-impressive from an ability to write long, descriptive passages, however, falls short of conjuring a story, characters or social commentary the reader cares about.
